How to Disinfect Glasses to Help Prevent COVID – 19
Did you know that your glasses or sunglasses could potentially harbor and transmit viruses including coronavirus to our eyes, nose or mouth? Research has shown the corona virus can live on plastic from 3 to five days, and metal up to five days; both materials used to manufacture the frames we wear. Touching a contaminated surface and then touching our glasses puts us at greater risk of contracting COVID – 19, especially those of us who wear reading glasses and take our glasses on and off multiple times throughout the day.
The good news is that it is easy to safely disinfect your glasses at home. Although your first instinct may be to use rubbing alcohol or other cleansers such as Windex, both can damage lenses coatings and frame materials.
The simplest way is to clean your glasses with lukewarm water and a gentle dish soap. First rinse the lenses with lukewarm water to remove particles that may have adhered to the lenses, then carefully massage the lenses along with the nose pads and earpieces with a dab of dish soap. Rinse thoroughly and dry with a clean microfiber cloth ( avoid paper towels as the fibers can easily scratch lenses).
We now offer ” curbside ” service : just call ahead of time to schedule an appointment to have your glasses repaired or adjusted.
